RM2059
Welcome
Welcome to the web page for AEC Routemaster Bus RM2059.

RM2059 ( ALM59B) was built in 1964 by AEC & Park Royal vehicles for London Transport as part of their famous Routemaster 'family' of buses.

After serving London Transport for 22 years RM2059 was withdrawn from service in February 1986 (its last garage being Chalk Farm). In May 1987 the bus was sold to Southampton Citybus who gave it fleet number 413 and used it on their routes 16, 17A & 23.

Unfortunately Routemaster operation in Southampton was short lived and after withdrawl from service RM2059 was sold in October 1989 to dealers Amex Trading in Buxton, Derbyshire. In September 1992 RM2059 was purchased by Andrew Hayward for preservation, key factors in its selection for preservation being the Leyland engine and illuminated offide advertisment.

Once purchased for preservation RM2059 was moved to the Delaine Coaches depot in Bourne, Lincolnshire for restoration to commence. Some work was also undertaken at the former London Transport Twickenham Garage which at the time was being used by the Routemaster Owners and Operators Association.

RM2059 was repainted into Delaine Coaches blue and cream livery and adopted into the fleet as number 113. The vehicles first appreance in Delaine livery was at the Delaine vintage running day on 28 August 1993.

RM2059 continued to appear at special events (including numerous trips to North Wales) for several years and was even used on 'normal' Delaine services during times of vehicle shortages.

In September 1997 RM2059 was withdrawn from service to allow an engine change and several other jobs to be untaken on the bus. The bus was stored at the Delaine depot in Bourne until December 2002 when it was moved to Shawbury in Shropshire. Unfortunately due to several factors plans to get the bus back on road stalled.

In October 2005 RM2059 left Shropshire and was moved to a former bus garage in Wolverhampton where restoration work commenced. In April 2007 RM2059 passed it's MOT and was repainted red before making its debut at the Llandudno rally on 6 May 2007. RM2059 now sees regular use in the midlands on private hire work with Routemaster Buses Limited.

September 2007 saw RM2059 leave Wolverhampton as the site it was housed in closed, RM2059 is now based at Crewe in Cheshire. On 22 September 2007 RM2059 was brought down to London and a week later on 30 September 2007 took part in a running day on London Routemaster Heritage routes 9 & 15. This was the first time that RM2059 had run on a proper public service in London since February 1986.
